[Spectrogram] [Audio Clip] (M37V) update: Turns out someone else recorded these same pips at the same time, but on 770 kHz during a presumed Radio Rebelde program. I am happy to report that the KBOI DX test was easily heard here in Los Alamos despite interference from KLTT Commerce City CO and especially from a 1 kHz tone caused by the high power Radio Rebelde transmitter in Cuba broadcasting on 671 kHz.
Here is the what I heard during the first segment of the DX test:
- Antenna pattern change to non-directional at about 1:07 AM MST, making KBOI audible, where before there wasn't a trace of it to be heard.
- Voice announcement 20 seconds in: "KBOI Boise. We are pausing programming to do some technical maintenance and adjustments. Please stand by. We'll be back shortly."
- 16 upward sweeps spaced about 2.5 seconds apart, starting at 29 seconds.
- Intermittent music starting at about a minute and 8 seconds.
- Morse code "KBOI BOISE IDAHO" 4 times, alternating between a 1 kHz tone and a 700 Hz tone, starting at about 1 minute and 49 seconds. The 1 kHz het from Rebelde made it hard to decode the 1 kHz morse code, but you could tell it was there.
If there was a voice announcement associated with the 2nd segment of the test, I did not hear it:
- Morse code starting at about 1:36 AM MST, same message as before, but repeated only once at each tone.
- 2 upward sweeps
- a collage of pieces of music
- 2 more Morse code IDs
- 5 more sweeps.
- antenna changed back to night pattern making KBOI disappear from my radio.
Also heard after reviewing my 5 hour recording of 670 kHz, a 3rd segment of the DX test! I only heard about 15 seconds worth at about 1:51 AM MST, and it consisted of a Morse code ID on top of some Christmas music ("It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year")

"Radio for the heart, This is K-Love, KLLV, Breen." With traditional christian worship music. 1800 watts and supposed to be daytime only. So why did I catch this after midnight? Hmmm? [Audio Clip] Station has a pre-sunrise authorization (PSRA) that allows them to come on the air at 6:00am with 500 watts, and also a post-sunset authorization that allows them to stay on the air after dark for a couple hours at much reduced power -- 236 watts or less, depending on the time of the year and time of day. This time of the year, they are supposed to be off at 7:45 pm. (M37V)

"La Traviesa" -- Something Spanish underneath 800-lb gorilla XEROK. Thought it might be KBKF Bakersfield, but the audio wasn't matching up with the online stream, so kept listening. Finally after almost an hour, with the RS loop and M37V rotated just so to null as much as possible the behemoth, XEROK faded out enough to hear some intelligible audio and a callsign ID. Fading in and getting stronger before pattern change/power change time, with ESPN Deportes programming (in Spanish). I somehow got distracted at the TOH, so I didn't hear the callsign, but this is the only 1540 that carries ESPN Deportes that I can tell. A later announcement gave URL of espndallas.com, then power dropped at 1716. [Audio Clip]. 32kW-D/0.75kW-N (M37V)

New station noted on the air today stunting, playing the same few songs over and over with this announcement in between each: "KOAZ and K279BP are One-Oh-Three-Seven, The Oasis. Listen at noon on Tuesday, February 14th, Valentines Day." A bit weak here in Los ALamos, and subject to a bit of splash from hard to null local KRSN 1490. This station took over the KABR 1500 license when KABR went to FM, and changed frequency, callsign, transmitter site and power. Now 5kW-D/4.2kW-C/25 Watts-N, diplexing off one of the towers in the KTBL 1050 array. 68 miles. (M37V)

KRSN's new transmitter site is only a mile from my house, so it wasn't hard to hear this one. Besides, I haven't officially relogged this one since they relocated their transmitter from White Rock. On this occasion, KRSN was running a DX test, which I organized for the station. The test program consisted of voice announcements with phonetic IDs ("Kilo Romeo Sierra November"), fast Morse code IDs at a medium pitch (700 Hz) and also at a high pitch (5 kHz), a telephone off-hook warning signal and some tone sweeps. 11 confirmed reception reports came in and I sent out 11 QSL cards [Here's a picture of one]. [Audio clip #1] is the 10 minute test program. [Audio clip #2] is how it sounded in Lakewood, CO. (M37V)
